How Fast is Your Serve?

Speed TracX Speed GunHave you ever wondered how your serve compares to the professionals? A serve speed-gun measuring the speed of your serve in mph will be among activities on offer during the open day. Great for "bragging rights" amongst your tennis friends, but remember, it has to go in to count!

While the event is primarily aimed at introducing non-members to the club, members are also invited along to assist, take part, speak to prospective members and enjoy a fun day. Refreshments and nibbles will be available.

Press Release for the 2012 Open Day:

ANYONE FOR TENNIS?

POTENTIAL new members are being urged to give tennis a try absolutely free this Saturday . . . with nibbles, refreshments and a racket lobbed into the bargain. Troon Lawn Tennis Club is one of the most vibrant on the west coast with a full range of coaching lessons, serious league matches, fun doubles and social events with a great crowd. This Saturday (April 28) is the 2012 Open Day and all you have to do is turn up, rally round and net a day of free fun and coaching from head professional Russell MacDonald and performance coach Graham MacDonald.

Primary age children should be brought along for 10am for a 90-minute tennis taster. And from 1.30pm until 4pm the grounds and courts will be open to all adults, teenagers and children. Single players of all ability and none are especially welcome as they will be paired into suitable groups.

There are six all-weather courts, three of which are floodlit for winter evening play. the whole family can play all year for under £1 . . . and get fit into the bargain.

Club vice president David Christian said: “Our club is run entirely by volunteers and we look forward every year to throwing the gates open and showing off what we have. The land for the courts was gifted by the whisky magnate Sir Alexander Walker 120 years ago and the game here has never been as popular. Tennis at Troon can be as serious or as fun as you like and for many it’s about getting out and having a laugh with new friends. We have rackets available for both juniors and seniors so they can get on court and pick up tips from our coaching team.”

Last Sunday the club held a court curry shipped in from the local Maharani Restaurant as a start of season social event while a draw was made for Wimbledon tickets offered through the Lawn Tennis Association.
